Pilot 1: Increasing transport efficiency in Athens As more and more new convenient ways of buying food and drink products are developed, an increase in movement of vehicles in the city environment is inevitable. While companies have been engaged in collaborative logistics project there needs to be a step change in the level of collaboration in order to continue to deliver food and drink to consumers within the confines of anticipated increasing legislation related to urban freight movement. The focus of this pilot is to identify opportunities for synergies and assess the impact of collaborative logistics for food manufacturers distributing their goods in urban areas, with the objective of eliminating unnecessary vehicle movement.
Pilot 1: Increasing transport efficiency in Athens
ObjectiveExamples of questions that the modelling and simulation aim to address are:What are the benefits of consolidating the product flows within a city?To what extent can the flows of different food manufacturers be consolidated to serve certain district in an urban environment?What is the impact of a regional consolidation centre servicing the flows to all the stores in a region? To help answer these questions, data supplied by the following organisations will be used:3PL companies distributing fast-moving-consumer-goods to retail stores in urban areas, but also suppliers and retailers who wish to explore what opportunities exist for logistics sharingManufacturers distributing food products to retail storesRetailers in Greece, that have many different stores located in the urban environment
